Ethical Blazers for Women with Wider Shoulders

At ASK blazers, we design for women who are often left out of traditional tailoring. Wider shoulders, longer torsos, and sleeve proportions that don’t fit standard sizing aren’t flaws—they’re realities. And they deserve garments that meet them with care, not compromise.

Our approach combines modular sleeve lengths, machine-washable tailoring, and a circular take-back program. Each piece is made from cruelty-free materials and premium hemp fabrics, with profit-sharing that supports animal welfare.

Every detail is shaped by use, belief, and the refusal to compromise on either.

Summary:

ASK blazers offers ethically made tailoring for women with wider shoulders and longer proportions—built with modular fit, circular systems, and cruelty-free materials.

Key Takeaways:

  • Modular sleeve lengths support better fit and longer wear
  • Hemp fabrics offer durability and ethical sourcing
  • Machine-washable tailoring supports everyday use
  • Circular take-back program enables reuse and recovery
  • Purchases contribute to animal welfare through profit-sharing

Why Most Blazers Don’t Fit Wider Shoulders

The Problem

Mainstream fashion is built on standardized sizing blocks that ignore shoulder width variation. For women with broader frames, this often means restrictive fits, boxy silhouettes, and compromised style.

But wide shoulders aren’t a flaw—they frame tailoring beautifully and can enhance the hourglass silhouette. The issue isn’t the body. It’s the system.

Industry Insight

Vogue Business reports that most brands still rely on mid-century sizing templates.

Harvard Business Review highlights how “outlier bodies” are excluded for manufacturing efficiency.

Tall and petite sizing options exist, but they rarely account for shoulder width diversity—leaving many women to size up and lose shape, or settle for discomfort.

Our Shoulder-First Tailoring Features and Modular Sleeve Lengths

What Makes Our Blazers Different:

Shoulder Fit

No shoulder pads, or a subtle layer. Classic sleeve cap, not a dropped style, to get structure without bulk.

Bust & Waist

Tapered underarm seams create shape and ease. A single waist button cinches gently to suggest curves, even if you’re straighter through the bust.

Hip Balance

Side seams flare subtly to accommodate or create the illusion of wider hips, enhancing the hourglass effect.

Lapel & Collar

Slimmer collars and balanced lapels avoid adding visual width to the top of the frame.

Mobility

Wider shoulder seams allow full range of motion (yes, even while driving), with soft draping that blends into the fabric’s natural creases.

Sleeves

Wider sleeves for comfort and bicep room. Modular lengths: petite, standard, tall. No sleeve vents or buttons, so you can roll them up or wear them down without clatter.

Circular by Design

ASK blazers aren’t made to be discarded. When a piece no longer fits your life, you can send it back. We’ll inspect it, repair it, and either reintroduce it into our resale collection or upcycle it into something new.

Because quality deserves more than a single lifecycle. And garments should be able to return not just wear out.

Summary:

ASK blazers supports circularity through a take-back program that extends garment life and reimagines what tailored clothing can become.

Key Takeaways:

  • Return worn pieces for store credit
  • Items are repaired, resold, or upcycled
  • Circularity reduces waste and honors material value
  • Designed to live well—and live again

FAQs

How do I know if I have broad shoulders?

If your shoulder width is noticeably wider than your hips, or if standard blazers feel tight across the back and upper arms, you likely have broad shoulders. Another clue: if you often size up just to get shoulder mobility, but the rest of the garment feels oversized.

Can petite women wear these blazers?

Absolutely. Our modular sleeve lengths include petite options, and our shoulder-first tailoring works across body types. Broad shoulders aren’t exclusive to tall frames—many petite women benefit from our structured-yet-soft silhouette without drowning in excess fabric.

Are your blazers machine washable?

Yes. Every textile component is prewashed and tested to ensure durability and minimal shrinkage. We use natural hemp and hemp blends that hold up beautifully in the wash—no dry cleaning required, no toxic solvents, no plastic-feeling linings.

What makes your materials vegan and sustainable?

We use 100% plant-based fibers, primarily hemp and hemp blends. Hemp is naturally regenerative, requires less water than cotton, and improves soil health. Our linings are free from polyester and animal-derived fibers, making each blazer cruelty-free.

How is hemp fabric different from linen fabric?

Our hemp fabric is generally softer and smoother than linen, it offers a more premium feel and slightly less creasing. Hemp fabric is less accessbile than linen due to historically enforced legal restrictions regarding hemp production, making it more expensive and more difficult to source than linen.

What is your circular fashion program?

We offer a take-back initiative: return your gently worn Ask blazers piece and receive store credit toward your next purchase. We will inspect, clean, and reintroduce the garment into our resale collection or responsibly recycle it.

What makes ASK blazers different from other brands?

We design from the shoulders down. Our tailoring starts with fit innovation for wider shoulders, long arms, and real movement not generic sizing blocks. Combine that with machine washability, cruelty-free hemp fabrics, and profit-sharing initiatives and you get a blazer that fits you and your beliefs.

How do I choose the right modular sleeve?

We offer three sleeve lengths: petite, standard, and tall. If your sleeves often fall short or bunch at the wrist, you may need a longer length. Our fit guide includes measurements and height references to help you choose confidently:

All sizes are currently adapted for the same shoulder width, size M.

Please note this style has a slightly wider shoulder and chest, as well as roomier sleeves.

Size Code Sleeve Length Type Body Length Recommended Height Range
M - P Petite 59cm (23") 155 –165cm (5′1″ – 5′5″)
M - N Standard 68cm (27") 166 –173cm (5′5″ – 5′8″)
M - T Long 68cm (27") 174 –182cm (5′8″ – 5′11″)

If you know you generally struggle with sleeves that are too short we recommend the long variation, even if you fit in the standard length, according to height.

I started this brand with the intention to make effortlessly beautiful, cruelty-free blazers and trousers that are accessible and that you will actually want to wear every day. Every garment is made with premium hemp fabric that feels good and can be easily maintained, but also offers sustainability benefits. Besides, no animal had to suffer or die for this fabric or any of my garments and I handcraft each piece locally in Europe.

I was inspired by the idea of soft tailoring — the kind that accentuates feminine shape in a subtle way, polished for any occasion yet comfortable enough to live in. Think fitted suits reimagined for leisure, for moments with friends or loved ones and for the regular days that still deserve to feel special.

Unfortunetly, the fashion industry’s cruelty towards animals runs very deep — not just in fur and leather, but in materials like wool, silk, alpaca fleece, angora fibres, feathers, etc. Even the most ‘innocent’ fibres come at the cost of extreme suffering. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Luxurious must also mean compassionate. Choosing the materials that you wear is a quiet yet powerful rebellion against cruelty.

I'm also a proud supporter of the AETP organisation (Animal Enterprise Transparency Project). AETP recently achieved monumental wins in Slovenia, including banning battery cage farming for hens and outlawing the sterilisation of piglets without pain relief. These victories aren’t just institutional — they’re personal. They fuel my purpose every day, knowing that garments can contribute towards an impact beyond just beauty and style.
